The interesting bit…
Camp or Hospital | Dates | Camp Leader | |
Singapore Changi | 15-Feb-42 | 10-Oct-42 | Lt. Col A.A. Johnson (nickname Ack-Ack) (Orchid Collector) 4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment |
Siam? | 10-Oct-42 | 20-Jun-43 | Lt. Col A.A. Johnson (nickname Ack-Ack) (Orchid Collector) 4th Battalion Suffolk Regiment |
Japan? | 22-Jan-44 | 15-Aug-45 | Lieutenant Little USA |
You have identified the correct Lt. Little. I highly recommend Geoffrey Pharoah Adams’ book, “No Time for Geishas” for his descriptions of life at Camp Fukuoka 17. You will learn a great deal about Lt. Little and the members of what’s best described as the camp mafia.
I am wanting to publish the diary of my father kept from February 15th 1942 up until his release in September 1945. He was interred in Changi, sent to the Railway in May 1943 with H Force and survived all this in various different Camps. may I visit Kew to look for his records?
I have visited Changi Goal in 1967 and obtained entry. Been to the Railway at Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai in 1982 and 2013/14, Chungkai and recently Hellfire Pass in 2015 and the museum there as well as the Museum in Changi.
Recently I appeared on the Antiques Roadshow with my father’s diary and have been asked to return due to the interest generated by others with similar stories which I would like to publicise and publish the diary as well.
My father was:
Captain Roger C Beavan IAOC
Many thanks,
Julian Beavan
